All Aboard the 7:42

'Musicar" acrylic painting by Mark Sheldan

There's something magical about coming home to your darling on a train that makes a great love ballad. This country-swing tune has train whistles and 'Andrew Sisters' style backgrounds to add the right amount of authenticity. This lonesome boy blues is all fake-I made it up. I was mucking around with jazz chords one day and out popped this sweet combination. I always heard the background vocals in my head, but when Lea actually sang the echo in three part harmony - the vision was complete.

'Train to the Unknown' acrylic painting by Mark Sheldan

This painting lives with Annemie Meyer. Notice her bird, Sugarplum, in the tree?Funny thing about this painting - I utilized an old canvas with a similar hill and turned it into this masterpiece. As you can see, the train is on it's way to a black hole in a piano-bass-guitar where anything can happen. It's the great unknown mystery of life.

Papa took the girls safely over the bridge

Aurora - queen of the ropes

Garnet Valley Gang

Stick 'em up!

One of the most exciting train rides we've ever been on was The Kettle Valley Steam Railway behind Summerland, B.C. We took our niece Aurora, who was about ten or twelve and had a blast. Entertainers Julia and Rick Valenti taught us rope tricks and Aurora was really good at it. see photo above We got robbed by the Garnet Valley Gang, squealed across high trestles and zipped around steep cliffs gazing at beautiful scenery the whole day. I highly recommend this wonderful adventure to any family.

Poster from our train adventure

This week's release: '7:42' features me wanking the whammy bar and making train sounds on harmonica. Shawn Stewart played awesome old-style jazzy bass while Lea sang like angelic cowgirls. We blew our lips off on the wooden train whistles trying to elongate the lonesome howl. Fake drums, fake train whistle, fake story...beautiful song. When you add a splash of 9th chords, a dash of 6ths and a healthy dollop of blues harp, it makes this train ride very satisfying. Until our next adventure, sing your song of love to the old man in the moon. Mark Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

7:42

This old train is rollin’ down the track [Rolling down the track]

I’ve been gone so long now I’m coming back [Now I’m coming back]

I’ve been lonesome baby, darling I’ve been blue

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

The 7:42 is gonna bring me home to you

We can sing our song of love

To the old man in the moon

You can hear the whistle blow

Beneath the sky of blue

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

Outside my window towns go drifting by [Towns go drifting by]

My heart is thumping there’s a sparkle in my eye [Sparkle in my eye]

I’ve got this feeling deep inside

I know you’ve got it too

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

The 7:42 is gonna bring me home to you

We can sing our song of love

To the old man in the moon

You can hear the whistle blow

Beneath the sky of blue

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

I’m coming home on the 7:42 [Coming home to you]

I’m coming home on the 7:42
