Bob The Slob

Drawn by Lea Sheldan from 'Toybox Tunes' Colouring Book

The wandering tale of Bob the Slob features the fiddle as well as a wiener dog. It was created in my head as I drove to my job as a vehicle inspector on the South side of Vancouver Town. I kept a notebook in my car in case of spontaneous lyrical inspiration. These three characters made me chuckle and so became my friends and the concept was complete.

The perm and moustache phase of my life

True love comes in many forms, shapes and outfits. For instance, look upon me and Lea at a toga party early on in our journey together. It's not the first time and probably not the last time you'll see me in a dress. LOL. Like the time I was in an all-girls band and they made me wear a dress on stage! But that's for another blog...

Is it halloween or is it just who we are?

Lea helped me write down the fiddle parts note for note so I got them just right. This is not your average country fiddle tune; it's a happy, going to the circus kinda sound. I'm fingerpicking guitar and banjo, Shawn Stewart is the bassman, while Lea plays all kinds of percussion stuff like rainstick, a frog, the sticks, a triangle and a Lybongo drum made by Craig Lybarger. Her polite sneeze may get something on you, so watch out for that. It all came together quite nicely in Hangover Studios in Langley, where we had to sing our parts in the tiny bathroom.

Dog Park by Mark Sheldan

See if you can find Joe the wiener dog in my painting, It hangs on the wall of our good friend Lisa Hartmann, who is a passionate dog lover. That's her in the top left. I hope you enjoy this imaginary, visual plethora of doggie fun. LIke the painting, there's a divine message in the chorus mixed up in the madness of an imaginary love story. 'Bob the Slob' is a unique country song that is often requested and fun for all ages. Sound effects and sing-a-long parts bring the listener to a surprise ending which might take your breath away.; it sure took mine away!

Until next time, may you all find happiness as through this world you slog. Mark Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

Bob the Slob

Bob the slob, Mary Lou and Joe the wiener dog

All went out together in the morning fog

Unbeknownst to everyone they wandered out of town

They just kept on walking and they never turned around

Life was meant for learning; that’s a message from above

Gotta fill yourself with food, confidence and love

May you all find happiness as through this world you slog

Just like Bob the slob, Mary Lou and Joe, the wiener dog

Bob the slob he had a job where he was supposed to go

But the fog was thick and it did the trick, how I’ll never know

They had mud up to their britches as they waddled through the bog

Bob the slob, Mary Lou and Joe, the wiener dog

Life was meant for learning; that’s a message from above

Gotta fill yourself with food, confidence and love

May you all find happiness as through this world you slog

Just like Bob the slob, Mary Lou and Joe, the wiener dog

Bob and Mary Lou were happy

Cause they knew their love had grown

Joe, their pet, was happier yet

Cause he found himself a bone

Mary Lou had the flu almost all her life

One day she sneezed on Bob the slob and so became his wife

She gave Bob a gift one night as they sat there on a log

A great big bag of puppy chow and Joe the wiener dog

Life was meant for learning; that’s a message from above

Gotta fill yourself with food, confidence and love

May you all find happiness as through this world you slog

Just like Bob the slob, Mary Lou and Joe, the wiener dog
