Easter Bunny

sketch by Mark Sheldan

Don't blink or you'll miss this one-minute blast into an alternate world of candy, rainbows & fairies. An adventurous spree of gobbledygook fell out of my brain and manifested into this kooky kid comedy. It's a golden gem that came off the unplugged mixed cassette tape I made for Lea back in 1994. Smokeywine re-recorded it at Twisted Gitar Studio for the Toybox Tunes children's compilation we put together this year. (smokeywine.com) I added my quirky cartoons to the coloring and activity book that goes with the CD, including this one of the crazy Easter Bunny. (toyboxtunes.com) Don't search for any deep message in this song cause there ain't one.

My appearance seems to have gone through many transformations over the years. As you can see, I had permed hair, coloured hair, thick glasses, mustaches and soul patches. In any case, I clean up pretty good because Lea keeps me well dressed and well coiffed. (leasheldan.com)

Halloween Invitation

On the opposite side of Easter and Springtime is Halloween and the wonderful colours of Autumn. I anticipate a humdinger of a party this year at our spooky graveyard. I already know that Bonnie Raitt will be jamming with us, as well as Elton John, perhaps Stevie Nicks, Santana and Janet Jackson too! It will be an all-out star studded night to remember.

Get a load of our graveyard. It's not quite complete yet - we still have to put spider webs and other stuff out that doesn't like the rain. Our pumpkins did not grow again this year but we got one tiny squash and a bunch of beautiful brussels sprouts. Oh yes... and a multitude of grapes which have magically turned into jelly and wine! It was really hard work taking the leaves and stems off of ten thousand grapes. LOL.

first tulip of Spring

Let's bounce back to Springtime to the 'Easter Bunny', a little ditty that begins with a slick humazoo intro performed by the great Lea Sheldan. (leasheldan.com) Then, ludicrous lyrics take you on a fast track through a fantastic adventure. Add inventive fingerpicking and bouncing bass runs and you are part of a magical, musical moment. As quick as a wink, it comes to an abrupt end with a whistle and a squeak.

Before my blog comes to an end, I'd like to give a shout out to my listeners overseas, in the US and here in Canada. Thank you for supporting organic, home-grown music and local artists. Every songwriter needs an audience and I am grateful for you all. Until next time, don't be afraid to put on silky velvet clothes and slide down a rainbow wearing cool shades. Mark Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

Easter Bunny

Well the Easter Bunny was flying by

He tripped on a cloud and squished the sky

He slid down a rainbow onto the ground

Took off his shades and looked around

He hopped so quick and he jumped so high

And the fairies watched him bounce on by

Sniveled his mouth and squiched his nose

And put on silky velvet clothes

With ribbons dangling from each ear

He sang a song and drank root beer

And all the kiddies sang along

With the Easter Bunny song

Then he smiled and danced with flair

While pulling chocolates from the air

He threw them here and he tossed them there

For everyone in the world to share

Then he found himself a vacant space

And disappeared without a trace
