If you think that life is a bowl full of cherries, then you may be a "glass half full" kind of person. For me, life is a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs, sharp curves, long straight aways, thrills and chills, moments to cherish and times of trouble. In this week's release, I sing about these things, trying to turn a positive spin after things are gone, gone, gone. It's a goofy, kidult, folksong that covers childhoods, bad jobs, beards, cars and sweethearts in a humorous, lighthearted way.
I had a childhood, boy it was fun. Ate lots of candy, played in the sun. Now that I'm older I don't indulge and keep my snow white body free of bulge. Since becoming a grandparent, Smokeywine the duo has been having fun exploring a new concept. 'Toybox Tunes' is a collection of children's songs we've written over the years with a coloring / activity book as a bonus. (toyboxtunes.com ) Lea did all the artwork - you can order one through us. 'Bowl Full of Cherries' features me doing what I do on my harmonicas, bass, adding a funky juice harp here and there for fun. Craig Lybarger blows his trumpet for the first time at Twisted Gitar Music Studio. We hope it won't be the last. Once again Lea Sheldan engineered this project, adding special harmonies in all the right places. (leasheldan.com) Folkies might enjoy the delicate, finger-picking I put on this track and there's a sing-along chorus with a meaningful message to put you in a good mood.
I had a job, boy it was bad. It was the woist job I ever had. Work takes up a majority of our time here on lovely planet earth. There seems to be a never ending to do list that just keeps on rolling out more projects than we have energy or desire for. But we gotta plug in the hours just to make ends meet on the corner of Overtime Avenue and Underpaid Boulevard. If we are lucky we get to take a little walk down Vacation Alley once in a Blue Moon.
I had a car; boy it could go. I drove like crazy through ice and snow. So many cars have come and gone. Not enough duct tape to fix what's wrong. Isn't this true in life? There's never enough duct tape to fix all the broken bits. But I believe love is the glue that sticks us together and it is, like the song says, the fountain of youth. Music also keeps us young, connected and vibrant. So thanks for supporting organic, homegrown music and local artists. It was a pleasure spending this time of passing moments with you. Remember I am not so far away if you want to chat about that half empty glass?

Sing along with the lyrics below
Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries
Life is a bowl full of cherries
Love is the fountain of youth
Time is the passing of moments
God bless the moment of truth
I had a childhood.
Boy it was fun
Ate lots of candy....played in the sun
Then I got older
Each passing day
And now it’s gone, gone, gone, gone so far away
I had a job.
Boy it was bad
It was the woist job...I ever had
I scrubbed out glue tanks
Three times a day
And now it’s gone, gone, gone, gone so far away
Life is a bowl full of cherries
Love is the fountain of youth
Time is the passing of moments
God bless the moment of truth
I had a beard,
Boy it was good
So long and fuzzy...It collected food
But it got itchy
Then it turned grey
And now it’s gone, gone, gone, gone, so far away
I had a car
Boy it could go
I drove like crazy...on ice and snow
It overheated
One summer day
And now it’s gone, gone, gone, gone so far away
I had a sweetheart
Boy, she was nice
She made me breakfast . . . twice
I thought she liked me
She didn’t say
And now she’s gone, gone, gone so far away
Life is a bowl full of cherries Love is the fountain of youth
Time is the passing of moments God bless the moment of truth
God bless the moment of truth
