Lounge Lizard, the politically incorrect dude in the bar

Updated: Feb 6, 2019

This song was written long ago about a lovable lush trying to get lucky. I was single, my friends were single, we hung out in bars. I watched as they tried to pick up girls, unsuccessfully. I learned what not to do and a song was born from these adventures. Beware of slightly sleazy lyrics, but it's about a lounge lizard, so it's expected. If you are easily offended, laugh it off, I only want to make you smile.

"How about a limerick?"

A young fellow out on the town

Drank till he was upside down

The women he'd meet

Only noticed his feet

Cuz his head was asleep on the ground

As the campers played Bocci Ball, I supplied the sound effects for each shot. It was hilarious. Everyone caught their 5 fish daily limit that weekend at Osprey Lake.

I didn't meet Lea in a bar, but at Ron Nielson's wedding waaaay out in the boonies of Maple Ridge. She was up on stage playing a huge bass when I first saw her. She caught my eye immediately with her pink hair and best man tuxedo. I'm not the kind of guy to try my drunk buddies' moves on her, besides she wasn't the kind of woman who would go for that shtick. Instead, I used foot massages and fun fiddle riffs to tickle her fancy. What do you know? It worked! We've been together over 25 years and we still like to get dressed up fine, go dancing, write songs and play tons of music. We share an awesome, creative life that keeps swirling and twirling through time.

This adult version of 'Lounge Lizard' channels my Louis Armstrong to the max. Campy trombone and a unique Satchmo scat make this a Mark Sheldan Jazz-Blues extravaganza. Jazz brushes on the drums and a killer stand up bass add colour and depth to this nod to the big band era. It was recorded at Fluid Sound in Vancouver with Peter Honychurch as the master sound guy. It's homegrown music with local talented musicians. Swing predominates the feel of this track and the lyrics make you giggle with a little embarrassment. Here are the words so you can be politically incorrect along with me. Thanks for listening to my music. Follow me on Spotify and all other music platforms to hear a new original song each week.

Then you can sing along to the words below:

Lounge Lizard

I’m a lounge lizard, having fun

I’ve been sitting here for hours watching your bum

Ooh baby I love your hat

Come on over to my flat

I’ll even let you stroke my cat

How about that? Baby

I’m a lounge lizard, so are you

Here, let me get a little drink for you

Would you like a double?

It’ll keep you out of trouble

We could go hubba dubba

Baby, maybe tonight

Satchmo scat

I’m a lounge lizard stay with me

Outside is a cold blizzard I’m cuddly

We can talk about trains and planes and ships

While my hand slips to your hips

I’ll even give you my potato chips

Baby, maybe tonight

I said, baby, maybe tonight

Oh yeah
