Ahhh, summer sunsets are now just a pigment in our imagination as we plunge into the crepuscular, dreary, mucky Fall season. Time to get out the gloves and scarves, put mink oil on all our footwear and reminisce about the cozy fireplace we used to have. If it wasn't for the marvelous Autumn colours, it would be a bummer. Maybe I'll try that trick again when I turn the heat up so high, Lea takes her clothes off - it usually works. The epicentre of this song began one hot day as I watched two butterflies flitting around our garden fence post. That spurred me onto a mind-reeling, song-writing session that is Canadiana at an exquisite level.
Feast your eyes on Canadian skies as boob mountains rise, the majesty sighs and the pretty butterflies. I sipped on a little homemade wine while I sailed away to my garden of Eden writing this jazzy-folk number. The more I experience the scenic British Columbia, the more I want to write about it. I imagined gypsy heartstrings, island percussion and fluttering guitar riffs accompanying the poetic portraits of this happy ode to my world. Smokeywine made it happen.
On this track, our good friend, Bohdan Siedlecki graced us with his fabulous gypsy fiddle stylings that took us to another place and time. Frank Faranda, another former guitar-teaching comrad, layed down a bunch of playful guitar licks at the Twisted Gitar Music Studio, where Lea Sheldan blended the two together masterfully. You will also hear her sing the dependable, strong Smokeywine harmonies. (leasheldan.com) The groovy little chorus is fun to sing along with and the rhythm of the rainstick gives it a dancing-barefoot-on-the-beach vibe.
But alas, summer is truly over and all we have left is this song. The people in Eskisehir, Turkey are no doubt feeling the cold like we are, but thanks for lending your ears to my music. And to the new listeners in New York, you are awesome! Keep supporting organic, homegrown music and local artists everywhere! Until we meet again, may the air smell sweet down in your valley as you enjoy a mango sunset and a moonlit dance. XOXO Mark Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:
Flowers blooming, peaches rosing
Berries dropping off the vine
Lilies laughing in the sunlight
Garden’s bursting and doing fine
Canadian woodlands, summer breezes
Lakes of sunshine, slip away, oh slip away
Gypsy heartstrings, moonlight dancing
Mango sunset, sail away
The air smells sweet down in the valley
With the glitter of the morning dew
Butterflies by the fencepost
Flirting ‘neath the skies of blue
Canadian woodlands, summer breezes
Lakes of sunshine, slip away, oh slip away
Gypsy heartstrings, moonlight dancing
Mango sunset, sail away
Birds are singing, bees are buzzing
Making crazy circles in the sky
Crickets chirping by the dozen
Puts a little teardrop in my eye
Canadian woodlands, summer breezes
Lakes of sunshine, slip away, oh slip away
Gypsy heartstrings, moonlight dancing
Mango sunset, sail away
Canadian woodlands, summer breezes
Lakes of sunshine, slip away, oh slip away
Gypsy heartstrings, moonlight dancing
Mango sunset, sail away
Mango sunset, sail away
Mango sunset sail away
