Picture yourself cold, shivering and alone just like a crow on the clothesline in the rain. This week's new release is a philosophical folk song; a rambling, acoustic ditty that carves a trail through the final chapter of a doomed relationship. It goes to show that every person we meet has an influence in some way. How it changes us might be insignificant or it may play out to be the one thing that wakes up our life. How people affect us is like ripples in the water that spread outward through emotional energy, Every one of my friends have deeply affected my life. I'm a better man for knowing them.
There are many who have passed that are still with me. In my daily life, I think things like, "What would Marion say about that?" or "How would Gordie react to this?" and "Lea's Mom would really love this song". As a matter of fact, 'Nothing Will Ever Be The Same' was William Frew's favourite song of mine. He was such a great country singer; a gentle giant who touched our hearts with his style and grace. Too young to leave us, but his songs will ring on. Now, whenever I sing this one, I will surely think of him.
On this track, I play my old Guild guitar with my steady, strum/flat-picking style. It sets a happy mood while conversely the lyrics express the sad tale of miscommunication and damage. Lea harmonizes with me as I add little trickles of lead guitar around the chorus. It was recorded in Maple Ridge at George Mallot's barn studio; our first tape recording we did as the duo, 'Smokeywine'. We sold dozens of colourful cassette tapes; cutting and pasting it together and calling it 'This is Us'. Later, we made it into a digital wave file and changed the name to 'Country Love'. Those were the days.

We played seniors homes, rec centers, birthdays, weddings; wherever the money trail led us. Look at us wearing cowboy hats and Lea in a leather mini dress. Wow! We were brave back then. But speaking of how people changed my life, Lea transmogrified me the most. Her voice and talents add colour and depth to my songs, she dresses me to perfection and teaches me how to cook real good. Even her family and friends have inspired me in a million ways just like those ripples in the water I was speaking of earlier.
Thanks to all my friends and fans who take the time to read my musings and share my strange and eclectic taste in music. You all mean the world to me. Until next time, may Angels guard the point of no return.

Sing along with the lyrics below:
Nothing Will Ever Be The Same
The moon was hanging low out in the backyard
We took our conversation to the snow
A gentle breeze was blowing a rainbow through your hair
Ain’t it funny all the things we never know
Like a dream caught between pain and laughter
Or a crow on the clothes line in the rain
Everything we do is so familiar
But nothing will ever be the same
The lake was a blanket and the fish were all asleep
I looked at you as I sat there on the post
We passed the time talking ‘bout the things inside our heads
But we never talked about the thing that mattered most
Like a dream caught between pain and laughter
Or a crow on the clothes line in the rain
Everything we do is so familiar
But nothing will ever be the same
Underneath the shadow of things that come and go
Angels guard the point of no return
A silver tear was shining like a mirror in your eye
How I wish I could make that fire burn
Like a dream caught between pain and laughter
Or a crow on the clothes line in the rain
Everything we do is so familiar
But nothing will ever be the same
