Spend The Night

'Fang Mountain' acrylic painting by Mark Sheldan

This is the tale of a lonely cowpoke looking for a date. Like the vulture in my painting looking down upon the unicorn and shooting star, he is yearning for things that are far beyond his reach. Back in my single days I used to frequent bars and observe unlucky fellows attempting to pick up girls with their end-of-the-night drunken cliches. Personally, it's never been my problem, but for art's sake I was compelled to document this habitual phenomenon.

Picture plenty party photos, presenting personal pals pursuing pleasurable pastimes. It was wonderful yesterday to spend the night with our jamming friends singing Bill Frew songs after the funeral gig we did in Squamish. Earlier, Aurora sat in for a few songs in the beautiful garden out in Brackendale. Lea and I (Smokeywine.com) set up our PA beneath a canopy on a rock stage amphitheater and played soft, harmonious songs as the folks mingled about remembering and celebrating Walter, Conrad's father. Even though we were the performers entertaining the crowd, Marley J was star of the show at only 9 weeks old.

Marley J. makes the day great!

Although it was a doubly sad day, the happy faces, new born baby cuddles and the voices singing in harmony brought about a feeling of Heaven on Earth. Speaking of heavenly sounds, let's talk about my new release of the week, 'Spend The Night'. This funny cowboy love song features a country-western harmonica and of all things, the vibraslap. With angelic harmonies and old timey swing guitar, this loping rhythm transports you into the saddle of a bony-backed old horse. I utilized my repertoire of 6th chords to offer up some exquisite toe-tapping enjoyment. Watch out for sly, sexy lyrical content injected into this brazen ballad.

'AFTER' 'Self Portrait' by Mark Sheldan

The dude on your right (AFTER) is how I imagine I look after a big night on the town. What woman in her right mind would let me spend the night? This particular fibre art painting took me several nights; poking bits of wool into a felt canvas. It's an unusual medium and though it acts like paint you can remove it and replace it at any time. Take a look at the hairy cyclops it started out as... (BEFORE)

I would like to welcome my new listeners in Istanbul, Isparta, St. Paul and Vancouver. Thanks to everybody who supports home grown, organic, local artists and musicians. Until we meet again in this cacophony of the cluttered cyberworld, thank you for letting me talk about my life and spending a little time with you. Mark Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

Spend the Night

I know we’ve been together just an hour maybe two

I know it ain’t the proper gentlemanly thing to do

But your lips are so tender and your eyes are so true

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?

Spend the night with you

Spend the night with you

I will love you darling

Till the morning light comes through

The moon is hanging over us

The stars are shining too

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?

We waltzed across the dance floor and shared a taste of wine

We talked a bit about our lives and passed a little time

I walked you home, you let me in for a drink or two

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?

Spend the night with you

Spend the night with you

I will love you darling

Till the morning light comes through

The moon is hanging over us

The stars are shining too

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?

I know we’ve been together just an hour maybe two

I know it ain’t the proper gentlemanly thing to do

But your lips are so tender and your smile is so true

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?

Spend the night with you

Spend the night with you

I will love you darling

For a minute maybe two

The moon is hanging over us

The stars are shining too

Can I take my boots off here and spend the night with you?
