Stuff happens and you can either laugh it off and keep on fighting, or lay down in a cow pasture and stink up the place. This tongue in cheek tune makes light of a bad situation a girlfriend found herself in. In my life, I've been cheated on, pushed around, kicked out the door and replaced by another. It makes for a perfect country song, some would say. . .
This cover art is melted wax on photo paper; a groovy technique taught to me by Rhianna, that same good friend who was 'put out to pasture'.
To have her whole life ripped from under her was a shock to say the least. I woke up with this chorus in my head and suddenly, it was a song.
It turned into a classic country hit in a jug band style and three-part harmonies. The words are darkly hilarious and it's fun and easy to sing along with. At my solo album 'Anything Goes' release party in Penticton, I dressed as Polly Fartin, although there is no solid evidence that anyone has seen. If there are photos out there, please send them to me, I'd like to see them.
On this track, Mark Sheldan strums the mandolin, plays lead guitar and a good steady bass. Playing rhythm guitar, I pull out multiple personalities, channelling a barbershop style I've never attempted before. I know Dolly Parton fans will appreciate this one.

Don’t Put Me Out To Pasture
Don’t put me out to pasture, don’t lock me out the door
You say our time has ended, you don’t love me anymore
Please don’t throw my stuff out or say something you’ll regret
Don’t put me out to pasture cuz I ain’t done livin’ yet
I cooked you every breakfast, lunch and dinners too
I spit out your babies and did it all for you
You say I’m fat and lazy, that I’m in your way
Now you got another and tell me I can’t stay
Don’t put me out to pasture . . .
I did yer dirty laundry, darned your holey socks
Smeared your body up with goo when you had chicken pox
Baby I don’t understand you wanting to be free
They say I’m nuts for lovin’ you when you ain’t lovin’ me
You treat me like an old dog, kick me when I’m down
Say that you’d be better off without me around
There might come a day, boy, when you’re feelin’ blue
Go ahead and beg and cry, I won’t come back to you
For twenty year (twenty years) I stayed around (I stayed around)
Even though (even though) you put me down (you put me down)
I shed some tears (shed some tears) when you fooled around (you fooled around)
You hid the keys to my car so I can’t go to town
You’re so mean (so mean) I’m so sad (so sad)
I’m doin the bestest that I can (oh yeah)
You’re so mean (so mean) I’m so mad (so mad)
I gave you all the best years that I had (oh yeah)
So, don’t put me out to pasture . . .
Don’t put me out to pasture cuz I ain’t done livin’ yet
