Monday Morning

Fibre Art by Lea Sheldan

Do you feel like me on Monday morning? Under a spell that says, "It's ok to sleep in, the world will go on without you for a few more minutes." Then you realize you are already late and the world has gone on without you! This week's release is a rock-a-billy, kick up your heels, upbeat number about weekends gone by too fast. Just when you were having fun, it's all over like an ice cube on a hot day. This is a happy/depressing song that went perfectly on our Smokeywine 'Swing Some Blues Some' album in 2007.

Now, here's a place I'd like to wake up on every Monday morning for the rest of my life. Although, too much of a good thing may not be so good. Watching your money disappear going to exotic destinations might become a problem. In the end, we still have to get up Monday Morning and go back to work to the endless cycle of watching the clock, cashing your pay cheque and waiting for the weekend to come around again.

I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones, not having to work a nine to five - monday to friday type of job. I work for myself, make my own hours and sometimes do my sewing projects in my pjs. I make no excuses for it, I like it that way. I still gets lots done, but I do it at odd hours of the day. I believe my duty in life is to make people look more stylish and fit into their clothes better. Job or no job, Monday morning still gets me down. And I'm not the only one who has sung about it either... Supertramp does one - look it up, it's a great song!

Mark and Charlie - weekend fun

Here are Mark Sheldan and his brother, Charles Siedlecki, hamming it up on the weekend; proof that the working class rise up and dance when they don't have to clock in. This week's release has a steady driving rhythm with a hook that sticks in your head long after the song ends. 'Monday Morning' depicts the sad, hard truth with a very catchy chorus that makes you want to sing along. Mark wrote the lead intro so I learned it for the recording and he did all the other leads on his Cort guitar. It is a true Smokeywine collaboration with Shawn Stewart doing a great job on the drums and bass at his studio in Langley. His girlfriend, Wendy Davis added some high harmonies with me, as I tried my best to hit notes like Trisha Yearwood and Shania Twain. Mark's incredible outro is one for the books as I added a gritty blues ending. So enjoy your weekends everyone, cause sure as the morning, Monday will come. Until then, love, laugh and dance. ~*.*~ Lea Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

Monday Morning

Monday morning sure will come you’ll see

Cold and hard like some old misery

It always makes a damn fool out of me

Monday morning I wake up and I’m mad

I hadn’t had had all the fun I shoulda had had

Now the weekend’s gone like a good old time gone bad

Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me feel resistance in my head

Oh, Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me want to crawl back into bed

Monday morning is a big old shot of hell

Why we go to work ain’t no one can tell

But everyone I know falls under some crazy spell

Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me feel resistance in my head

Oh, Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me wanna crawl back into bed

Monday morning don’t care about Sunday night

Monday mornin’ just wants to growl and bite

And it’ll keep on chewin’ all the way to Friday night

Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me feel resistance in my head

Oh, Monday morning, Monday morning

Monday morning, Monday morning

Makes me wanna crawl back into bed

Yeah, it makes me want to crawl back into bed

You know it makes me want to crawl back into bed
