Set Me Free

Fibre Art by Lea Sheldan

When you've had it, you've had it! This song is about being caught in a bad situation, feeling trapped, used and abused. It's a fierce ‘Me Too’ statement to take back the power with strong, in-your-face lyrics. I wrote it for a good friend who was in a sticky situation with, shall we say, an undesirable. She needed to be set free and walk away before any more damage was done. I was so relieved when that disaster was over. I like to think I had some part in her escape and I make no apologies for it.

Here are pics of some of the special women in my life who have taught me to be strong and to celebrate who I am rather than focus on the mistakes I've made. I am grateful to have such a good group of friends to share my secrets and successes with. Without them, I would surely become a crazy cat lady who never leaves the house. I may still...

Ok folks, is time for crazy cat pics! I can't help it, I love 'em. It must be the parasite they injected into my brain to transform me into their feline servant. They want for nothing, these lazy, furniture destroying, aloof creatures. Sure, they rub against my leg every so often and purr when I scratch under their chin but where were they when Louise was freezing her butt off in our living room when the furnace went off? They were lounging in the bedroom with their fur coats on; unamused and unwilling to cuddle with her. Bad kitties! That's my cat rant for meow...

'Set Me Free' is a lively song to make you move and groove with a 70’s Jesus Christ Superstar vibe. The incredibly cool bass runs, expertly played by Shawn Stewart, set an awe-inspiring tone. Steve Horvat gets down and dirty with some very funky guitar riffs to make the listeners drool. Saying it's pop doesn't give it justice because it's got punch and vocals that cut to the core. In the Twisted Gitar Music Studio, Mark (www.MarkSheldan.com) encouraged me to belt it out, almost to the limits of my vocal abilities to get the message across. I guess it worked because it's one powerhouse track from Smokeywine's 'Swing Some Blues Some' album. Until next time, I'll continue to live loud, Love, Laugh and Dance! ~*.*~ Lea Sheldan

Sing along with the lyrics below:

Set Me Free

I can’t go anywhere with you no more

I won’t try to pretend that you’re still my friend

I won’t cry anymore over you, no no

You better listen to me and set me free

It’s too late, it doesn’t matter what you say

Had your way, now you better move along

I don’t need any more of your lies and shame

You better listen to me and set me free

Set me free, set me free, set me free,

Set me free, set me free, set me free

You called me names like it’s some little dirty game

I won’t play by your rules no more, no more, no more

Walk away, don’t look back, don’t even turn around

You better listen to me and set me free

Set me free, set me free, set me free,

Set me free, set me free, set me free

I don’t care about the money that you gave to me

It’s not fair that you treat me like I’m nobody

You can’t push me around and tell me what to do

Stand aside and watch me walk away from you

I can’t go anywhere with you no more

I won’t cry over you, no no no no

I don’t need you around so there’s the door

You better listen to me and set me free

Set me free, set me free . . .

I’m gonna walk, walk out the door

You won’t see me, see me no more

I’m gonna walk, walk out the door

You won’t hurt me, hurt me no more
